Aside from a bent front skewer, the bike was fine, and I didn't notice any problems aside from soreness in the expected places. I did need to take a two hour nap after the ride, which was unexpected. I had a wave of fatigue wash over me, and I collapsed onto the bed still in my riding gear.

 My friend Sayre has lost 145 pounds over the past year. He recently posted to Bike Forums about it, and solicited advice on future goals. I wrote the following about regaining weight in the future.

Since no one has touched  this, and I have some experience with both a rapid loss of a lot of  weight and, err, backsliding, here are my thoughts.

Too much to do before work, and so I only got in a walk of a mile and a fifth. Still, that "only" is more outdoor activity than many Americans get in a week. And being outdoors is glorious. The bulk of the trail is on sidewalks in the Byers Station housing development. That's a very happy Historian grabbing the Milepost 0 marker on the C &amp;O Canal Towpath in Georgetown. This was my first ride in nearly two weeks, my first ride in Elverson, my first ride on the bike since the drivetrain was cleaned, and my first ride in sub-freezing weather.
